Ahead of its Christmas release in theaters and on the streaming service HBO Max, a select group of movie critics were invited to see the DC comic book sequel at home or on the big screen and offer their thoughts. This has been a year with very few big superhero blockbusters, but Wonder Woman 1984 is finally coming to save the day. But I am saying it’s getting harder to trust the small collection of reviews that come out a week or two before the launch of something if these sorts of disparities keep happening, and increasing in their severity. Wonder Woman 1984 has received some of the most favorable reviews since Man of Steel kicked off the DCEU back in 2013. I am looking forward to WandaVision and I’m definitely not saying it’s going to be bad. Believe me, I’ve liked things people have disliked before, but I also know that studios, whether that’s for TV shows, movies or video games, will often try to steer early access to people that are more likely to like things compared to others, and the more that happens, the more you see these kinds of sharp drops once a broader spectrum of reviews come in.
